Puri: The repair work of the main prayer hall of the Jagannath temple, the Jagamohan, by the Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) would resume soon and preliminary work in this regard started today following the end of the dispute between the temple administration and the Chhatisa Nijog-the main body of the servitors. The Chhatisa Nijog has assured the temple administration to cooperate with the administration to complete the repair work.

The dispute came up after the temple administration questioned the locus stand of the Chhatisa Nijog to oppose the repair work by the ASI and asked to clarify its legal sanctity. Several entities involved in the day to day rituals and affairs of the temple suggested that the Nijog in fact was a legal body and its suggestions were vital according to the record of rights of the temple administration.

Meanwhile, the chief secretary Bijay Pattanaik today reviewed the preparatory works for the Nabakalevar (Reincarnation of the Deities-when new idols are consecrated in the temple) Festival to be held in 2015. The temple town would get a new facility for the grand occasion. A committee comprising executive engineers of several departments has been constituted to look after the works. The review meeting was attended by the district superintendent of police, additional district magistrate, Puri sub-collector and several other government officials. It was decided to complete the repair work of the main prayer hall of the temple by 2013.
