Puri: The Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) has started repair work of the carvel of the temple inside the famous jagannath temple here which had fallen off a few days back injuring one devotee. The superintendent of the state circle of the ASI, Ashok Kumar Patel had taken stock of the damage on Thursday and assured the sevayats and the temple administration to undertake the repair work at te earliest.

The ASI has six large pieces of khandolite stones especially for the purpose from village Tapang. A team of experts headed by specialist R S Jamuel has undertaken the repair work. The ASI authority has assured that a new carvel would be constructed and fixed atop the temple lying on the western entrance of the main temple. The reconstruction would be over within a fortnight, an ASI official said. ASI expert Jamuel siad that all the four main gates of the jagannth temple need to be repaired immediately.
