Bhubaneswar: The State Assembly on Monday passed the Odisha Professional Educational Institutions (Amendment) Bill, 2016, giving technical colleges in the State the discretion to take a decision on the admission of students in case seats fall vacant after two rounds of counseling.

The Bill says Odisha will participate in All-India Joint Entrance Examination (AIJEE) Main test for admission into the technical colleges in the state.

After two rounds of counseling for JEE Main rank holders for admission into engineering and other professional courses, the institution can take a call on admitting students on their own in case seats fall vacant.

The Odisha Professional Educational Institutions (Amendment) Bill was supposed to be passed in the winter session of the Assembly. However, it could not be passed as the House was adjourned before its scheduled closure.
