Bhubaneswar: The DAV school fee hike issue continues to simmer as teachers of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Nayagarh English medium schools on Monday staged demonstration in Bhubaneswar against the ‘manhandling’ of a teacher in Cuttack last week.

Over hundred teachers holding placards took out a peace rally from Master Canteen to PMG square demanding strict and immediate action against the miscreants for assault on the Cuttack DAV principal.

Teachers and principals of several schools have also threatened indefinite ceasework until their demands were met.

On January 21, as many as 50-60 agitating parents demanding a rollback of school fee hike, barged into DAV public school, CDA in Cuttack and allegedly abused principal Ipsita Das. They too assaulted the lady teacher besides forcing her to withdraw the hiked fee, sources said.

Meanwhile, students of the DAV public school, Pokharaiput were forced to sit outside the campus on Monday as the school was closed without a ‘prior notice’.

DAV Pokhariput parents association president Akshay Dixit said, “The school authorities must inform us if they are closing the school. Of course we all are taking pain to drop our wards at school and today we found that the school is closed.”

The DAV authorities and the parents are at loggerheads after the former increased school fee almost three fold last month inviting wrath of parents. Terming the hike exorbitant, the parents alleged that since the fee hike issue was under sub-judice and the Supreme Court was yet to give its verdict, the school authorities must not go for the hike.

On the other hand, the school authorities countered that based on an interim order of the apex court, they decided to go ahead with the hike.
