Berhampur: A teacher of an upper primary school has been suspended on Friday for allegedly locking up a class-III student after classes were over at Badagada, officials said.

The teacher of the school located at Badagada had locked up a class-III student on 10 August after the school closed, official sources said on Friday.

The girl was rescued by the police from the locked classroom about three hours later, sources said.

Sources said the student had fallen asleep in the class, when the school was closed at 4 pm. The classroom was locked by the teacher without verifying if any one was inside, sources added.

The headmistress of the school has been transferred, officials said.

The school management committee demanded action against the teachers. District Collector Krishan Kumar later asked the district inspector (DI) of schools, Bhanjanagar, to conduct an inquiry.
