Cuttack: Police on Thursday sent Paresh Mohapatra, main accused in the murder of lady teacher Alakananda Mishra and his four aides to Choudwar jail following rejection of their bail plea in SDJM court.

All five accused were arrested on Wednesday for their involvement in the killing of the teacher and disposing her body in a crematorium.

Sources said, police are planning to seek remand of all the accused and interrogate to ascertain the motive behind the crime, besides checking phone call records of the accused. Meanwhile, the ashes collected from the crematorium have been sent to laboratory in Bhubaneswar for DNA test.

Police said, Paresh had admitted to have strangulated Mishra with her ‘dupatta’ following a scuffle on July 29. With the help of transport in-charge of his school
Pranabas Ray, an associate J Kameshwar Rao, Srikanta Nayak and ambulance driver Hrushikesh Sahu, he had then taken her body to Kaliaboda and cremated it.

While the ‘dupatta’ used for the murder has been recovered by the police, the ambulance used to take the body for cremation has been seized along with Paresh’s car.

Police said, Alakananda had come in contact with Paresh in 2010 and both were in a live-in relationship after an intimacy developed between them. Both were staying in a rented house at CDA sector 10.

On July 29, there was some altercation between the two and in a fit of rage, Paresh strangulated the teacher with her ‘dupatta’, police said. “Though the accused has admitted to the crime, he is yet to motive behind the crime,” an investigating officer said.
