Koraput: In a major breakthrough, Police today arrested a dreaded Maoist leader of Nandapur division, Damburu Khila from Koraput. Official sources said Khil is allegedly involved in the murder case of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and ex-MLA Siveri Soma.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Koraput police arrested Khil from Kodikhal village under Chatua panchayat in the area bordering Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. After interrogation Damburu will be handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA) Team for further probe, informed Koraput SP Kanwar Vishal Singh.

Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma informed that "A case was registered at a local police station in Andhra Pradesh in connection to the death of TDP MLA and ex-MLA and NIA was given the responsibility of investigation. Koraput Police arrested Damburu during a raid yesterday. Police have also seized two mobile phones from the accused. Further investigation into the matter will be done by NIA."

On September 23, 2018 TDP's Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former MLA of the same constituency Siveri Soma were shot dead by the Maoists while returning from an event in Araku valley.

Following the incident, locals had set fire to police stations in Dumbri Guda and Araku in the aftermath of the assassination of the two leaders.
