Rourkela: A tax collector of Sundargarh Municipality was arrested by state vigilance sleuths for alleged misappropriation of government money to the tune of Rs 9 lakhs, official sources said today.

Rukuna Behera had allegedly manipulated official records by putting his own thumb impression and misappropriated the government money which was to be paid towards pension to the poor and needy persons under Madhubabu pension scheme, National old age pension scheme and Odisha disability persons pension scheme.

After being arrested, Behera was produced before a vigilance court at Sambalpur on Wednesday evening which remanded him to jail custody.
