Tata Power-led Odisha discoms collect over Rs 500 Cr in penalties
Tata Power-led Odisha discoms have collected more than Rs 500 crore in penalties from electricity consumers for delayed bill payments, power theft, meter tampering and other violations, Deputy Chief Minister (Energy) K V Singh Deo informed the Assembly on Wednesday.
Responding to a query, Singh Deo stated that the government consolidated penalty data from different timeframes for all four distribution utilities.
While figures for TPCODL and TPWODL are available from 2023-24 onwards, the data for TPNODL and TPSODL has been compiled starting from 2021.
TPCODL Collected Rs 167.7 Crore
TPCODL, which caters to central Odisha, collected Rs 167.7 crore in penalties between 2023-24 and January 2026.
The breakup shows Rs 52.7 crore in 2023-24, Rs 60.18 crore in 2024-25, and Rs 54.82 crore in 2025-26 up to January 2026.
TPNODL Mopped Up Rs 155.6 Crore
In northern Odisha, TPNODL mobilised Rs 155.6 crore in penalties from April 1, 2021, to January 31, 2026. Of this amount, domestic consumers accounted for Rs 123.9 crore.

Commercial users contributed Rs 25.4 crore, agriculture consumers Rs 3.9 crore, and industrial consumers Rs 2.5 crore.
TPWODL Collected Rs 106.96 Crore
TPWODL, responsible for power supply in western Odisha, collected Rs 106.96 crore during the period from 2023-24 to January 2026.
The yearly collections stood at Rs 36.2 crore in 2023-24, Rs 39.76 crore in 2024-25, and Rs 31 crore in 2025-26 up to January 2026.
