Rourkela: Revealing Rabindranath Tagore`s special bond with Odisha, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said that the bard was highly impressed by the natural beauty of the state.

``Not many are aware of the special ties that existed between Odisha and Tagore whose grand father had an estate at Pandua in Jagatsinghpur district,`` Mukherjee said at the valedictory ceremony of Tagore`s 150th birth anniversary organised by Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Samillani here.

People in Pandua remember Tagore and go through his writings, he said highlighting the cordial relation between West Bengal and Odisha and similarities in the language and lifestyle of the people of the two neighbouring states.

Tagore was so impressed by the beauty of Odisha, particularly Puri, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Balasore, that he constructed a house at Patharpuri in Puri, Mukherjee said adding Tagore had met Odia poet Madhusudan Rao and others along with his father.
