Bhubaneswar: At a time when the country is witnessing terrorist threats almost every other day, to combat such activities in urban areas, Odisha police on Monday formed a Special Tactical Unit.

According to sources, the team comprising thirty (Special Operation Group) jawans will respond to any such activities in the urban areas of the State. The jawans who are skilled in all forms of special operations including guerilla warfare techniqes, have been specially trained by the National Security Guard (NSG) to conduct counter insurgency operations and meet any kind of eventuality.
“This will go a long way to counter terror threat in urban areas. We will gradually increase the capacity of the unit to meet the challenges of time,” DGP Prakash Mishra said.

The unit was flagged off by the Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra here on Monday in a special function held at seventh battalion ground.
