Puri: With every passing day the Swargadwar land scam in which the rights of the land used as the approach road to the most sacred crematorium was handed over some private persons keeps getting murkier and murkier. Barely a few hours had gone when the state revenue secretary R K Sharma had denied any wrong-doing in the land deals, a member of the Puri bar association Kali Prasad Ray snapped a legal notice on Sharma alleging that the revenue secretary was trying to sheild the land grabbers without conducting any inquiry.

Providing details on the Swargadwar land the legal notice served to the revenue secretary Raj Kumar Sharma by lawyer Priyadarshan Pattanaik on behalf of Kali Prasadd Ray stated that exactly one hunred decimals of land in front of the crematorium were acquired for expansion of the crematorium in 1988 which was subsequently leased out by the Puri Municipality for commercial purpose. Though permanent structures were constructed latter on the same piece of land, no action was initiated by the municipality nor the concerned authorities to prevent it.

The notice cliamed that the revenue secretary instead of waiting for the findings by the state vigilance department has given a clean chit to the land grabbers through his statement in a most surprising manner.  About one thousand decimals of land were provided to the Swargadwar in two different phases.

The local tehsildar today led a tean of revenue officials to measure the controversial piece of land. The executive officer of Puri Municipality Biswajit Dash however told that the municipal auithorities would discuss the matter with the district administration to find out the truth.
