Gas Leak in Paradip Photograph: (OTV)
Panic gripped parts of the Paradip area on Sunday after residents from several villages reported breathing difficulties, nausea and vomiting, sparking fears of a possible gas leak. The incident created widespread alarm, particularly in Niharunikandha, Balidhara and Rangiagarh villages, where multiple people complained of sudden uneasiness.
According to local sources, residents began experiencing health issues within a short span of time, raising suspicions of exposure to hazardous fumes. Many villagers claimed the air had an unusual smell, intensifying fears that gas may have leaked from a nearby fertiliser factory. However, officials have not yet confirmed the source or nature of the suspected leak.
Residents Take Precautionary Measures
As uncertainty prevailed, several residents were seen wearing masks while stepping outside, while others chose to remain indoors to minimise possible exposure. Concerned families, especially those with children and elderly members, took extra precautions amid growing anxiety in the area.
Police and Authorities on Alert
Upon receiving information about the situation, Abhayachandpur police immediately launched a probe and increased patrolling in the affected localities to assess ground conditions and ensure public safety. Police personnel were deployed to prevent panic and assist residents if required.
Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored, and further action will be taken once clarity emerges regarding the cause of the health complaints. Residents are awaiting official confirmation and necessary measures to restore normalcy and address safety concerns.
