A wedding celebration in Odisha's Angul district turned into a medical emergency after more than 25 people fell ill, allegedly due to food poisoning. Around 20 of them have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital and are currently undergoing treatment, while several others are receiving care at private hospitals.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Tubey village under Jarapada Police Station limits. Shortly after consuming the wedding feast, several guests reportedly began experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting. As their condition worsened, they sought medical attention.
Multiple Hospitalisations Reported
More than 15 persons affected by diarrhoea and vomiting are presently admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, the Additional District Chief Medical Officer of Angul confirmed. The patients reportedly approached the hospital after their health deteriorated following the feast.

Preliminary findings indicate that the illnesses were caused by food poisoning. The affected individuals remain under medical supervision.
Samples to Be Collected for Testing
To determine the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning, a team from the District Headquarters Hospital will visit the venue where the feast was organised. Food and water samples will be collected from the site and sent for laboratory testing.
Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the sample analysis, the Additional District Chief Medical Officer said.
