Bhubaneswar: Lakhs of devotees have thronged to Ram temples across the State to offer prayer on the sacred Sriram Navami today, the birth anniversary Lord Ram. Every temple is seen decked up for the holy festival since early morning after the Prabhat Alati ritual of Lord completed.

Special arrangements have been made at Ram Mandir in Bhubaneswar expecting huge crowd on the occasion. Two layer barricade systems have been made for the devotees to ensure a safe ‘darshan’ of Sriram. A bee line was seen at the temple today with the chant ‘Jay Sriram’. The number of devotees is gradually going up, temple sources said, adding special programme like Ram Charita Manas discourse will be held at evening which will witness heavy gathering.

“We visit the temple regularly, but our visit is something special today as Bhagaban Ram had taken birth on earth on this auspicious day” a woman devotee said.

Similar situation was sighted at the shrines in Cuttack. Ram temples at Palamandap, Chandini Chowk, Chahata Ghat and Khannagar Panchamukhi Hanuman temple witnessed crowd of devotees at the morning. The image of Lord Ram, Laxmana and Devi Sita along with Hanuman are decorated with colorful flowers while the temples are decorated with glittering lights.

“I am observing fast today on Ram Navami. I do so every year and I believe that Lord Ram would fulfill all my desires”, a devotee from Cuttack said.

All Siridi Sai temples across the twin cities are also celebrating the birth anniversary of Sriram with gaiety. The temple officials prepared for the festival two-three days back, sources said.

The festival falls in the Shukla Paksha on the Navami, the ninth day of the month of Chaitra in the Hindu calendar. Thus it is also known as Chaitra Masa Suklapaksha Navami, and marks the end of the nine-day Chaitra-Navratri celebrations.
