Sun Temple in Konark faces no threats: ASI

Cuttack: The Konark Sun Temple faces no threat to its structural stability, stated the affidavit filed by the Director General of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) before the Orissa High Court today.

According to sources, the ASI, in its affidavit informed the court that repair works at the Konark Sun Temple are being carried as per international standards and no stones have been replaced during the repair works.

As the affidavit did not mention any details regarding the cracks in the structure of the temple where the repair work is being done, the Orissa High Court has directed the ASI DG to submit a detailed description of the repair works being carried out at the temple.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled on January 21, 2019.

“In today’s affidavit, the ASI DG has mentioned about its 2010 report wherein cracks were accepted to be present in the structure and action taken by its committee. But the affidavit today fails to mention the specific cracks in the structure. So the High Court directed the ASI DG to submit an affidavit with details by January 21,” Mohapatra added.
