Bhubaneswar: Revenue and Disaster Management Department on Thursday issued show-cause notice to the authorities of Kendriya Vidyalaya-1 in Bhubaneswar for violating the order of the government notifying extension of summer vacations till June 25 in view of grueling intense heat conditions.

According to reports, the school has been holding classes which forced children to travel in severe hot and humid conditions.

Taking a stern note that such incidents might have serious implications on the life and health of the students, a show-cause notice has been issued to the concerned school authorities, sources said.

As per the letter issued by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi, the concerned school principal has been asked to explain as to why action under Section 51 (b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 shall not be initiated against him for such wilful violation.

Official sources said the school has been directed to submit an explanation within three days failing which action would be taken against the school authorities.

It is pertinent to mention that Odisha government had extended summer vacations in schools initially up to June 21 and subsequently up to June 25 keeping in view intense heat wave conditions across the State.

Kendriya Vidyalaya had allegedly violated such government order by reopening the school and conducting classes. However, the school authorities could not be contacted over the issue till this report was filed.
