Bhubaneswar: Mystery shrouds the death of a lady advocate whose body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her rented house located at Lingipur in Dhauli area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on the wee hours of Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Dipali Priyadarshini Jena who hailed from Bhadrak district. Dipali’s male friend, identified as Bikram Keshari Mishra, a businessman by profession, who was allegedly present in the house during the incident is reportedly absconding.

According to sources, Dipali’s younger sister Sefali who stayed with her went to meet her friends at around 5 pm yesterday. At that time, Dipali and her male friend, who hails from Balikhand area under Simulia police limits of Balasore district, was present in the house.

At around midnight, Bikram called up Sefali to inform her that Dipali had locked herself inside a room and not responding to him despite repeated knocks. Soon, Sefali along with her family members reached the rented house and found Dipali hanging. However, her male friend was absconding from the spot.

Informed, Dhauli police rushed to the house and seized the body. Family members of the deceased meanwhile have alleged foul play and lodged a police complaint in this regard.

They suspected that Dipali and her male friend had an argument which probably led to her death. Besides, they have also raised question as to why Dipali was wearing sindur (vermilion) on her forehead and was also Sankha (shell bangles) even if she was unmarried.

Dhauli police has launched a manhunt to nab Bikram whose cellphone was found to be switched off. Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar Bar Association has demanded a thorough probe to find out the actual reason behind Dipali’s death.
