Bhubaneswar: International sand artist Sudarsan Patnaik would represent India in the 39th International Snow Sculpture Contest scheduled to be held at Sopporo in Japan next month. Representatives from 15 countries including India, United States, Russia, Indonesia, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Finland and New Zealand would participate in the five-day contest commencing February 5.

"I plan to create a three-metre high sculpture on climate change to highlight how the human beings as well as the earth suffer from it," Patnaik said today. Two of his students, Jitendra Kishore Jagadev and Bulu Mohanty, would assist him in creating the sculpture which would take four days to complete.

Patnaik said he had already participated twice in 2002 and 2007 at?Sopporo snow festival. Having represented India in 47 international sand sculpture championships and festivals around the world, he had won many prizes including World championship title at Berlin. Sudarsan is running a sand art institute in the Golden beach of Puri in Odisha.
