Puri: Hundreds of devotees ushered the cart carrying ‘daru’ or holy wood for making Goddess Subhadra’s idol through the north gate of the Jagannath temple in Puri today.

The ‘sagadi’ or cart began its journey from Yajnanurshingha temple to the Jagannath temple this morning. The cart was taken to Koili Baikuntha on the premises of Jagannath temple through its north gate.

Thousands of devotees thronged Bada Danda to witness the unique ritual and were seen chanting verses with full devotion. While on the other hand, the Chaupata ritual after axing of Lord Jagannath’s daru is underway at Kharipadia in Jagatsinghpur district.

Though the ritual was expected to be completed today, heavy rain yesterday threw all the proceeding out of gear, which might delay the proceedings. The construction of cart which will be used to transport the wood logs to Jagannath temple is in full swing.
