Paradip: The sub-collector of Jagatsinghpur has been suspended for alleged irregularities committed in settlement and mutation of land when he was tehsildar of Kujanga, official sources said on Monday.

Allegations of irregularities were pending against Basudev Pradhan before the district collector, revenue divisional commissioner (RDC) and chief secretary and inquiry was on, district collector Satyabrat Mallick said.

"I have communicated the (suspension) order of the government to him (Pradhan)," Mallick, who has taken over as collector of Jagatsinghpur district recently, said.

Three staff of Kujanga tehsil comprising a head clerk and two revenue inspectors were placed under suspension by the RDC a month ago in this connection.

The action was taken against the officials after it was established through an inquiry conducted by the RDC that land settlement had been done in favour of influential people and also `benami` (fake) persons by forging documents.

Even as the inquiry was in progress, the tehsildar was shunted out to be posted as Jagatsinghpur sub-collector recently, the sources said adding Pradhan is to retire from government service this month.
