Cuttack/Bhubaneswar/Baripada: Unrest continued on campuses of different colleges across the Odisha today after the final list of candidates for ensuing students’ union election was declared.

Following rejection of nomination papers of some candidates, unrest surfaced at Deba Ray College in Bhubaneswar. According to sources, some unidentified miscreants hurled bombs at the Deba Ray College campus and fled the spot. Following the incident, a group of students sat on dharna demanding security. After receiving information, police reached the spot and launched a probe. Later, the authorities closed the college sine die.

“Fearing defeat, some groups are creating disturbance on the premises and we demand police protection. But the Principal did not listen to us,” said Abinash Pradhan, a student of Deba Ray College.

Similarly, palpable tension was observed at Rajdhani College due to which the authorities declared sine die.

Two groups at MPC College in Baripada clashed while some miscreants tried to create panic among students by lighting crackers forcing the authorities to cancel the polls.

At Sailabala Women’s College, displeasure was observed among some students after their nomination papers were rejected.
Meanwhile, principal of the college, Chinmoyee Patra said due to lack of required attendance the nomination papers were rejected.

As per the notification issued by the State government, the ‘Why I stand for’ meeting will be held on October 10.

Polling will be conducted between 8 AM and 2 PM on October 11 while counting of votes and announcement of results will be done on the same day. The oath taking ceremony of elected student representatives will be held on October 12.
