Bhubaneswar: The high school teachers’ stir has taken another turn on Saturday when hundreds of students  were found accompanied the agitating teachers who have been on strike for long demanding abolition of block grant system and implementation of grant-in-aid at par with the fully aided schools.

The teachers along with the students of their respective schools across the state took out a rally from lower PMG square to Assembly waving placards and banners. Many intellectuals including city DCP Nitinjit Singh described the involvement of students in strike as unfortunate while the teachers stated that the kids joined the strike voluntarily as their study is getting hampered due to teachers’ strike.

Participants in the rally included teaching and non-teaching staff and students of 1983 block grant and 327 aided high schools across the State under the banner of Block Grant Secondary School Teachers and Employees Association.

“The strike will be continued as the government which promised of full grant-in-aid for block grant teachers, have failed to keep its promise”, Association President Prasanta Kumar Mohapatra said.

The teachers have decided to boycott the Matric exam beginning February 25.
