Phulbani: Several Class 10 students of Sonpur High School under Daringbadi block of Kandhamal district threatened to commit suicide after they were allegedly barred from filling up forms for the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination 2020.

As per reports, there are 25 Class-X students in the school of which only 11 students have been allowed to fill-up their forms for the upcoming matriculation examination while the remaining 14 students were allegedly barred by their headmaster from doing the same, putting their future in jeopardy.

While resentment is brewing among the students and their parents over the issue, they alleged that the headmaster deliberately prevented them from appearing for the examination due to some unknown reasons.

"We are feeling very sad that we couldn't fill our forms to appear in the annual examination. If we are not allowed to sit in the examination this year, we will jump from the roof of the school and commit suicide," said Pabitra Baliarsingh, one of the students.

Similarly, an aggrieved parent alleged, "The headmaster has put the future of our kids in jeopardy. He is a fraud and should be taught a lesson."

However, the concerned headmaster of the school Pramod Kumar Sahoo brushed aside all allegations levelled against him.

"The students couldn't perform well in the pre-board exams, the qualifying test for the annual Matric examinations. They are very weak in their studies and also have low attendance. I had earlier urged their parents many times to send their wards to school but they never paid heed to my words,” Sahoo said.
