Rourkela: In an unfortunate turn of event, a student was killed and another injured critically as school boundary wall collapsed after being hit by a truck at sector 6 area here on Monday, police said.
The incident took place when the truck carrying mid-day meal rice lost control near the NAC (ST) high school gate and hit the boundary wall where two students were playing. The wall collapsed on them leaving both the students injured. They were immediately rushed to IGH hospital where one of them was declared dead. The condition of another injured is stated to be critical, sources said.
Soon after the incident, the locals including the guardians rushed to the spot and gheraoed the school triggering tension in the campus. They alleged that why the heavy vehicle was allowed into the school campus during study hour. The guardians demanded high level probe into the incident and adequate compensation to the victim’s family.
On the other hand, police rushed to the spot apprehending any possible eventuality and have seized the vehicle. Further investigation is on to ascertain the circumstances that led to the tragic incident, they added.
