Rayagada: One student was killed and five more were critically injured after being attacked by honey bees in Rayagada district on Wednesday evening.

As per reports, the incident occurred when a group of children of the Karubai Ashram School went to the nearby forest to collect leaves for the Ganesh Puja celebrations today.

While collecting the leaves, the students were suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees, informed sources.

Locals rescued all the students and later rushed them to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) where doctors declared one of the students dead.

The condition of the injured students is stated to be stable now.

"Though the incident occurred at 4PM last evening, the children were admitted to the hospital today morning. We are conducting an enquiry to ascertain the exact reason behind the 12-hour delay in admitting the children to the hospital", said collector of Rayagada, Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar.
