Student hospitalized after ragging in Ravenshaw

Cuttack: In yet another ragging incident, an undergraduate student has been hospitalized for allegedly being assaulted by his seniors here at East Hostel in Ravenshaw University.

According to reports, Manas Samantray, a student of B.A. first year was beaten up by his seniors last evening and was locked up by his seniors in his room. A complaint has been lodged at Malgodam Police Station in this regard.

“Around 10-20 seniors attacked me suddenly. I have lodged a complaint at the police,’ complainant Manas Samantray said.

On the other hand, the seniors in the hostel have refuted the complaints against them terming it baseless and a conspiracy by the university authorities against them as the decision over the ongoing East Hostel issue will be out next week.

“The complaints against us are absolutely groundless. Since the final decision over issue concerning East Hostel will be out next week it is a conspiracy by the authorities against us. These students are involved in to drugs and they create disturbance in the hostel by playing music in high pitch. We had tried refraining them from doing so. We had also asked them to stay out of the hostel premises if they ever want to do it in future,” said Ganeshwar Behera, a senior student.

Meanwhile, Registrar Smarpriya Mohapatra has said that stern action will be taken if the accused students are found guilty.

“After the warden submits the report we will ask the ragging committee to go the details of the issue. And we will definitely action if the accused are found guilty,” Registrar Mohapatra informed.
