Sambalpur: A Class X student of Madnawati Public School in Sambalpur went missing in Mahanadi river near Chaunrpur ghat while taking bath today.

The minor boy has been identified as 15-year-old Aman Kumar Paswan, the son of Dinesh Paswan of Sambalpur.

As per reports, fire brigade and ODRAF teams reached the spot on being informed and carried out search operations.

Sources said the boy along with his friends came to the Chaunrpur ghat to bath in the river. The onlookers tried to stop him from entering into the turbulent river but the boy did not pay any heed. He entered the water alone while his friends stood on the bank. Subsequently the boy went missing in the river water.

"On receiving information at around 10:15 am, an eight-member team of fire service personnel reached the spot to launch a search and rescue operation. Armed with lifebuoys, the personnel searched near the river bank, but were unable to find the boy. Apprehending that the boy might have been swept downstream, another team accompanied with a speed boat was sent to Gunderpur to carry out the rescue operation. However, the boy still remains untraceable," informed a fire service personnel.

On the other hand, father of the boy said, "Aman Kumar left home saying that he was going to the nearby market this morning. We had no idea that he would come to the Chaunrpur ghat."

This is the second case of drowning reported in Sambalpur district in a month. Earlier, two students of Aurobindo School met watery grave in Chipilima power channel.
