Ganjam: A 24-year-old youth from Odisha’s Ganjam district, who is reportedly stranded in Kuwait, has appealed to the government to help him return to his native place.

The youth, Jeelu Prusty of Adapada in the district through a video message has narrated the hardship he is facing in the Gulf country and appealed to the government to facilitate his repatriation.

According to sources, Prusty had been working as a pipe fabricator at M/s Heena Enterprises in Mumbai since 2016. The company subsequently engaged him at M/s Al-Sager Company Gen Trad & Cont WLL, Kuwait last year. However, instead of employing him as a pipe fabricator as promised earlier, the said company engaged Prusty in soil transporting work.

After working there for eight months, he left the job. However, the company did not settle his payment. His passport validity also reportedly ended in November 2019.

“I cannot express how many problems I am facing here. The company authorities are harassing me and the administration is also not good here. I request the government to kindly help me return to my native place,” a visibly distress Prusty appealed through the video message.

He further alleged that although he has been repeatedly approaching the Indian Embassy in Kuwait and appealing the authorities to facilitate his return, no one is helping him. He said he is surviving on the money being sent from his house as he has no job.

When contacted, Ganjam district labour officer said all efforts are on to bring back the youth to the State.

District labour officer, Babu Charan Patra, said, “We have intimated the matter to Odisha labour commissioner and he has written to the director, Gulf Division, Ministry of External Affairs and requested to take necessary steps for rescue and safe return of the youth. I have also personally talked to the youth and all necessary help will be provided to him.”
