Phulbani: Staff of a residential school in Phulbani allegedly fled while leaving behind inmates at the school hostel stranded. Later the inmates were rescued by the Welfare Extension Officer (WEO).

As per reports, 17 inmates of the Palchi Ashram School were left stranded with no staff to look after them. On receiving information, the WEO reached the residential school and shifted the inmates to the Belpadar Ashram School.

The Kandhamal District Welfare Officer said a probe will be launched under what circumstance the staff of the ashram school left without informing the inmates.

"The welfare extension officer during his visit to the residential school last night found the headmaster on an emergency leave, while the Assistant teachers and other officials were nowhere to be found. Sensing the minors to be living under helpless and perilous condition, we shifted the students to safety," informed District Welfare Officer, Charulata Mallick.
