New Delhi: A demand was made in Rajya Sabha on Friday to stop work on Polavaram multi-purpose project in Andhra Pradesh to protect tribal people and their land in Odisha.

Raising the issue through a special mention, Sasmit Patra (BJD) said a total of 6,818 people including 5,919 tribals will be impacted in Odisha village due to the project.

He alleged that the project was given the go ahead despite court hearings.

He said a large number of villagers will be displaced due to the project.

Raising another issue, KC Ramamurthy (Cong) demanded strict monitoring of pathology labs and diagnostic centres across the country.

Through another special mention, Kanta Kardam (BJP) demanded ensuring minimum support price to farmers for their yields.

Rajiv Gowda raised the issue of noise pollution terming it a silent killer and stressed the need for strict regulations as well as behavioural changes.
