A consignment of stolen edible oil was recovered in Deogaon after being stolen from Kantabanji in Bolangir district in Odisha. On November 6, around 150 tins of edible oil were reportedly stolen from the warehouse of Mukesh Kumar Jain located near Chatuanka in Kantabanji town.
As per reports, following a complaint lodged at the local police station, the Deogaon police conducted a raid at the house of a shopkeeper in Dumerpita village under Bandhapara outpost limits. During the search, police recovered all 150 tins of edible oil from the shopkeeper’s residence, although some tins were found empty.
Suspects Detained for Questioning
In connection with the case, six individuals were detained for questioning while further investigation continues. Discussions emerged over whether the seized oil is genuine or counterfeit, as the tins bear labels of multiple recognised brands. Police suspect that fake oil might have been sold under the names of reputed brands.
Investigation into authenticity and documentation
Police reportedly informed the Food Safety Department regarding the seizure and have continued their investigation. The Food, Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department along with the Food safety Department will also be notified, following which samples will be tested to determine the authenticity of the oil.
