State-level boxers launch protest against Odisha Amateur Boxing Association
Puri: Leveling allegations of being sidelined by Odisha Amateur Boxing Association, state-level boxers launched an agitation today. Protesting the decisions of Odisha Amateur Boxing Association, boxer Raju Nayak and other boxers staged a demonstration in front of Puri District Collector’s office today.
Nayak alleged that despite being a state-level player, he is being denied to play in the state-level competitions.
“I had played at the state-level last year. This year the officials kept on saying that I have some problems for which I cannot play. The officials should clarify why I cannot play.”
“This year I am hopeful of getting selected,” Raju said.
On the other hand, Rabindra Pratihari, Secretary of Puri District Athletic Association, took note of the matter and reportedly held discussions with the secretary of boxing association, District Sports Officer and the Collector.
Pratihari said “The boxing association secretary had written to me about Nayak. We have now accepted him for all-India selection and there is no problem with him.”
After the announcement of the decision by Pratihari, the protest was called off.
