Bhubaneswar: Orissa Government today set up monitoring committees for restoration works in the flood-hit areas to meet the commitment made to the Centre on fund expenditure for the purpose.

"As the state government has given a written commitment to the Centre assuring expenditure of Rs 1208 crore within 45 days, it formed the committees to ensure that the deadline is met," Chief Secretary B K Patnaik said.

The departments concerned had already been allotted fund required for rebuiling roads, bridges, common facilities, river and canal embankments, Patnaik said. While special relief commissioner will head the state-level monitoring committee, collectors will preside over the district level committees for smooth implementation of restoration activities, he said.

Meanwhile, relief operation in all the flood hit areras came to an end with all the people returning to their houses, official sources said.
