Bhubaneswar: To conduct elections in a free and fair manner at co-operative societies across the state the Cabinet which met on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik decided to form a special State Cooperative Election Commission.
 
According to sources close to the development, a secretary level officer would be the Chairman of the Commission. His tenure would be five years or up to the attainment of 65 years whichever is earlier.
 
The Cabinet also decided to postpone the election dates for all co-operative bodies in the state for six months from February.
 
However, if the amendments to the State Co-operative Societies Act could not be tabled in the Assembly, the elections would be conducted by moving a special ordinance, added sources at the government.
 
The Cabinet also decided to amend the Combined Competitive recruitment rule. As per sources, amendments have been made in the service rules of gardner, assistant gardner and grafter.
