Bhubaneswar: Protests, dharnas, rallies and road blockades at several places of the state on Thursday marked the hike effect of steepest-ever price rise in petrol by the Centre on Wednesday mid night. While twin city citizens of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack vented their ire against the hike, protestors of several political parties also staged dharna at several places by blocking roads and burning tyres on the roads.

Protesting the hike, BJP Yuva Morcha had called for a 12 hour petrol pump bandh in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Thursday. Party workers of Biju Yuva Janata also sat on a dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan to protest against the hike. While CPM also joined hands rallying with the irked consumers, members of the CPM Bhubaneswar Regional Committee staged a road blockade near NH 5, paralysing vehicular traffic for sometime.

Petrol price was hiked by the Centre Rs 7.50 a litre last night.
