In an unfortunate incident, a temporary stage collapsed on hundreds of spectators during the final match of the Makutharishwari Volleyball Tournament, sending locals into panic mode in Patrapur of Ganjam district.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when more people than the platform was designed to hold climbed onto the bamboo structure, causing it to give way suddenly.
Thrilling Finale
The tournament had drawn large crowds, with locals eager to witness the thrilling finale. Organizers had set up a temporary bamboo platform intended to accommodate 40 to 50 spectators. However, reports indicate that over a hundred people had climbed onto the stage, which ultimately led to its collapse.
Witnesses described chaotic scenes as the platform gave way, leaving several spectators trapped underneath.

Emergency response teams and volunteers acted swiftly, helping the crowd evacuate safely. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, though some people sustained minor bruises and were given first aid at the scene.

This incident highlights the risks of overcrowding at temporary structures during public events, particularly in sports tournaments that attract enthusiastic local audiences.
