Puri: Out of the 12 proposals suggested as a part of disciplinary reforms in Puri Srimandir following the Supreme Court directive, for three proposals on which no consensus has been reached a special committee will be constituted. This was informed by chief administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Pradipta Mohapatra after a meeting of the temple managing committee today.
According to sources, the meeting, chaired by Puri King Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb decided to constitute a committee to look into proposals of abolition of hereditary appointment of servitors, prohibition of collection of money for Annadan Atika by servitors and ban on placing pitchers for donation and amendment of Shri Jagannath Temple Act, 1954.
While the Puri King will be the chairman of the special committee, the SJTA chief administrator, Puri Collector and SP will be members.
As the temple’s tradition is 800 years old, the SJTA will seek more time to submit a report before the apex court-appointed amicus curiae after examining the directives, the SJTA chief administrator stated.

Besides, for development of the Rosasala and the Anand Bazaar, a sub-committee will be formed with SJTA chief administrator, Collector and representatives of the Suara Mahasuara nijog as members.
Another sub-committee will be formed to consider issuance of identity cards to servitors and persons appointed to assist tourists, he added.
Sources said as per the SC order, the SJTA is supposed to submit an affidavit on Puri Srimandir reforms in September.
Earlier, on August 13, the SJTA chief administrator had said a detailed discussion on all the 12 proposals was held in a meeting and consensus was reached on nine proposals. However, servitors had expressed resentment over the chief administrator’s comments and said it was not true that consensus has been reached.
