Sri Sri University supervisor murdered for ‘harassing’ female friend of accused
Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police today stated that Sri Sri University supervisor, Sunil Sahu was killed for harassing the female friend of the accused. According to reports, accused Niranjan Behera murdered the university staff with the intention to take ‘revenge’ for mentally and physically harassing his female friend.
“Investigations revealed ‘revenge’ angle to the murder. The victim, Sunil was earlier working as an administrative officer with a private college in Dhenkanal where he had illicit relationship with a female lecturer reportedly against her wishes. The lecturer was mentally and physically harassed by Sunil,” Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty informed.
“Later, Sunil joined Sri Sri University with new assignment. Meanwhile, the female lecturer informed one of her school friend Niranjan Behera about her harassment by Sunil,” Mohanty said.
“The accused, Niranjan felt that Sunil needs to be punished for his actions and had planned the murder three-four months back. Later Niranjan purchased a country-made pistol to commit the crime,” Mohanty added.
The Police Commissioner further said, “Cops found clues through CCTV camera footage about the colour of two-wheeler and helmet. As the accused and his female friend had sought police intervention a few months ago, police suspected them and kept them under electronic surveillance.”
“The two-wheeler and pistol used in the crime have been recovered from the accused. The case now stands solved,” he added.
Earlier, on November 25, two bike-borne youths intercepted Sunil near Barang and fired three rounds at him. Sunil had sustained bullet injuries in head, chest and hand and was rushed to SCB medical where he was declared brought dead.
