Bhubaneswar: Close on the heels of Delhi gang-rape case in which the 23-year-old physiotheraphy student is battling for life for last 11 days  and three similar spine chilling instances in the state, the Commissionerate Police on Tuesday in a wake-up call decided to deploy 21 special teams at public places to curb eve-teasing.

The special teams which would be placed at crowded places such as parks, theatres, shopping complexes and bus stands, include both male and female cops, said official sources.

Earlier, the Commissionerate Police in a bid to curb anti-social activities in the state capital announced its plans to introduce beat patrolling system from first week of January. If plans go well, in the first phase cops will be provided with 32 power bikes to patrol similar number of beats.

According to sources the Commissionerate Police has divided the city into 100 beats. Six beats would be set up under each police station and every beat would have at least four constables.

Besides the routine patrolling by police control room ( PCR) vans, the beat police personnel would take up round-the-clock foot and bike patrolling, said sources.

Within one week three brutal incidents against women in the state have left city cops on tenterhooks. While a minor girl was allegedly molested in the state capital by three youths in a moving auto rickshaw before being thrown out of the vehicle on Monday night, in another incident a 19-year-old part-time dancer was allegedly gang raped near Kalinga Stadium few days back.
