Notorious burglar Spider Satish, who was arrested in connection with the case, has been released from jail after the prosecution failed to establish the charges against him. The JMFC-III court acquitted Satish, declaring him 'not guilty', as the prosecution could not produce sufficient and credible evidence.

The incident took place on the night of January 26, 2025, when Spider Satish allegedly broke into Patnaik’s house located at Nayapalli inBhubaneswar. The accused reportedly carried out the theft at midnight, decamping with gold ornaments, cash, and an expensive wristwatch.

After committing a theft at Patnaik's house, the accused first went to Baramunda and then fled to Vizianagaram by bus. However, it was the radium-embedded shoes worn by Spider Satish that ultimately led to his arrest.

Police claimed to have scanned nearly 10,000 mobile phone records and examined footage from around 400 CCTV cameras. They also studied the criminal histories of about 50 hardcore thieves before finally arresting Satish from a jewellery shop in Visakhapatnam. The police even conducted a crime scene recreation. A chargesheet in the case was filed on April 25 last year, and at the time, Satish was said to be facing 34 criminal cases.

However, despite the film-style narration of events, the police failed to present adequate evidence related to these cases before the court. As a result, the court has strongly criticized the police for lapses in the investigation process.

"After the trial on the theft case, the JMFC-III court acquitted the accused by declaring him 'not guilty'. It has been clearly mentioned in the judgment that the prosecution has not been able to prove its case," said Spider Satish's lawyer, Sudhansu Sekhar Udgata.
