Jharsuguda: In a major development, SpiceJet authorities have reportedly announced to discontinue its flight services between Delhi and Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda on Mondays till September 30, 2019.

The decision of Spicejet, however, has not gone well with the air travellers, although the officials of Jharsuguda Airport claimed that they haven't received any official intimation in this regard.

“We are yet to receive any communication from SpiceJet. We came to know about the decision from media reports. We think it may be due to some operational or technical issue that the flight services will be discontinued on Mondays,” said Jharsuguda Airport Director, SK Chouhan.

Though the exact reason behind the decision is still unclear, Jharsuguda Senior Citizens’ Association has written to the senior authorities to continue regular flight services.

“We have written to the authorities demanding regular flight operations as people from distant places are dependent on the airport here. We do not see any logic on discontinuing flights on Mondays,” said Jharsuguda Senior Citizens’ Association president, Arjun Mora.

The budget carrier had reportedly started its operations from VSS Airport in March 2019 offering direct flights to Delhi under the Centre’s UDAN scheme.
