Bhubaneswar:  In what came as relief to the domestic consumers of Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) has decided to reduce the tariff by Rs 1.50 per unit on Saturday.

OERC has reduced the tariff from Rs 3.50 to Rs 2 per unit within the slab of 51 to 100 units. The decision came after the State Government decided to compensate the losses incurred by power distribution companies (distcoms) due to the change in the tariffs.

The domestic consumers will pay Rs 1.50 per killo watt hour for consumption above 50 units subject to maximum rebate of Rs 75 per month.

However, the order of the commission is subject to the outcome of the writ petition pending in the High Court.
