Bhubaneswar: Concerned over the huge pendency of cases related to atrocities on scheduled tribe (ST) and scheduled caste (SC) population, state government on Friday decided to set up three special courts to deliver justice to the victims. These courts would come up in the next financial year.

During reply to a query in Assembly today, SC&ST Development and Minorities Minister Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha said, the government would bear the traveling expenses of prosecution witnesses for speedy disposal of cases.

In addition to this, 118 tribal sub plan block legal aid cells will be opened for which two lawyers will be recruited in each block for delivering free assistance.

Besides this, a new bill has been drafted to curb fake caste certificates. Three committees headed by RDCs are looking into 1, 360 such cases out of which 284 cases have been disposed, the minister informed.

Similarly, the stipend for SC&ST students would be increased from Rs 500 to Rs 600 for tribal boys and Rs 530 to Rs 600 for tribal girls, Bariha said.
