A series of thefts has rocked the Patapur police station area in Ganjam district, triggering panic and fear among local residents. In the last four days, miscreants have reportedly burgled at least ten houses, fleeing with gold ornaments and cash.
According to reports, the burglaries followed a similar pattern. The accused allegedly entered houses through backyard entrances, broke open doors and forced open almirahs to steal valuables. In several cases, family members were present inside the houses at the time of the thefts, raising serious concerns over security and law enforcement.
The latest incident was reported on Friday morning from Badheisahi, located about 500 metres from the Patapur police station. The victim discovered the burglary after waking up to find the backyard door open and household items scattered. The miscreants allegedly decamped with around 12 tolas of gold jewellery and Rs 2.60 lakh in cash.
Patapur police have launched an investigation and are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas. Local residents are also being questioned as part of the probe. However, despite sustained efforts, the police officials are yet to make any breakthrough in the case.
In the wake of the repeated thefts, residents have demanded increased police patrolling, particularly during night hours, to prevent further incidents. The spate of burglaries has heightened fear and insecurity in the area, with locals urging the authorities to strengthen security measures.
