Sambalpur: Smoke billowed out of a two-tier AC coach of 3287 Down Durg-Danapur Express today at Bamra station near here, official sources said. Passengers noticed smoke emanating from near the air conditioner system of the compartment when the train was about to leave Bamara station, about 100 km from here in South-Eastern Railway at around 2.12 pm, they said. After being informed about the smoke, GRP, RPF and Railway staff immediately conducted a thorough check in the compartment and confirmed that the smoke was coming out of the battery box of the AC system.

"We disconnected the AC from the battery box and then allowed the train on its onward journey," sources said. The scheduled stoppage of the train at Bamara for two minutes with scheduled departure at 2.12 pm. The train left the station 43 minutes behind scheduled at 2.55 pm.  All the passengers of the AC compartment travelled in the same coach without air-conditioner with plans to restore the AC at another station, they said.
