Bhubaneswar: While the Twin City Police Commissionerate claims to have filed a chargesheet against three accused in connection with the brutal attack on Parvinder Pal Singh in the capital city, the members of the Sikh community in Bhubaneswar today went to meet DGP Abhay to vent their grievances.

However, as the DGP wasn't present in his office, the members lodged a complaint with Police ADG Soumendra Priyadarshi and demanded slapping of serious charges against the three miscreants for brutally thrashing Parvinder in presence of police.

"It is still understood if a person is abused by passersby over some parking issue. But it's unacceptable when the miscreants call and thrash a person in presence of police. It is evident that the cops are not performing their duty in an efficient manner, or they are being pressurised."

Similar demands were raised by Odisha Yuva Swabhiman Mancha who urged to suspend police DSP Anup Kanungo for accompanying local MLA Ananta Jena during his visit to Parvinder's house late at night on the day of the incident.

Debasish Ghose, convener of the Mancha said, "The men who attacked Parvinder Singh were rewarded. What can be more disturbing than this? Police here is acting as middlemen. The Commissionerate Police has become gundas, which is why the DSP had gone to Parvinder's house in the middle of the night."

While the incident was condemned by people from all walks of life, Singh had expressed serious concerns over the safety of his family’s and his own as the accused were released on bail barely four hours after their arrest.
