New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday requested the Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to set up a Central Agriculture University in the state to serve the needs of the state, particularly the KBK districts. Naveen who is on a official visit to the national capital met the Union Minister and also requested Sharad Pawar take necessary steps for proper allocation of indented quantities of breeder seeds of paddy, moong, biri and groundnut for Khariff 2012 to the state.

The Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar agreed to Naveen`s proposal for inclusion of six districts namely Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Boudh and Jharsuguda under the National Horticulture Mission Programme (NHMP). Pawar assured the Chief Minister that steps would be taken to include the six districts under the NHMP during the current year itself. Naveen also requested the Agriculture Minister to provide actual requirement of 10.38 lakh MT of chemical fertiliser for the Kharif-2012. Pawar also agreed to provide additional funds under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana for enabling the state to develop `agricultural centres` for farmers to include a hall for interactive sessions, hostels for farmers and agricultural/horticultural nurseries around the centre.
