Six men thrashed on suspicion of child theft

Rayagada: Locals in Rayagada on Monday, rounded up and thrashed six persons suspecting them to be child lifters. The accused were later handed over to the police.

Sources said, the accused were roaming in the locality suspiciously following which locals caught hold of them. On questioning, the men failed to give any satisfying answer. Moreover, rumours on social media fuelled the suspicion, said sources.

Earlier on Monday, two persons were nabbed from Jemadeipentha under Seshakhala police limits and Raniguda Farm area on outskirts of Rayagada town on similar charges.

Cases were also reported from other parts of the district,  said sources.

Meanwhile, police have registered two cases at the Rayagada police station and began probe.

Rajkishore Das, SDPO, Rayagada, said the two detained persons are from Uttar Pradesh and verification is on to find the purpose behind their visit to Rayagada. “Probe is going on to get details on other detainees as well,” Das added.
