Kendrapara: In pre-panchayat poll violence, at least six people were injured in a clash between supporters of ruling BJD and opposition Congress at Malua village, about 15 km from here, police said today.

The ruling party workers had allegedly torn up the poll posters of the principal opposition party fuelling the violence. Trouble arose as workers of both the parties resorted to brick-bating and baton wielding, said sources. "Police rushed to the spot brought the situation under control. Police are keeping a close watch on the situation," said Pravash Chandra Pal, Inspector, Kendrapara Sadar police station.

A couple of days back, at least six persons were injured in a similar poll-related violence at Gopalpur village under neighbouring Tirtol police station of neighbouring Jagatsinghpur police station over tearing of poll posters. The three-tier panchayat polls in Odisha are slated to be held next month and campaign to woo the voters had since reached a feverish pitch.
